Anuario Brasileiro do Cobre | Brazilian Copper Yearbook 2018

2018 Anuário Brasileiro do Cobre Brazilian Copper Yearbook 62 During assets’ lifetime, the events caused by incidents, accidents or failures accelerate the end of the assets’ useful lives, reducing their life expectancy, or the remaining time of use in proper conditions. Due to the requirements of a regulated market, the interlinking in a complex system and the variety of existing assets, to implement an asset management system is a challenge to the management. However, the results obtained with a more effective risk management, clients’ servicing with total reliability, the decrease of costs and the best long-term profitability fully justify the necessary efforts. Asset management stands as a competitive advantage to the health sector, by improving performance indicators, providing a best balance between financial returns and risks, and by increasing the infrastructure reliability. Energy Management, Energy Efficiency and Asset Management - A possible shortage of natural resources and the high cost of electric energy is a reality in all countries, and in Brazil has a similar situation. Over one decade after the 2001 crisis, the emerging new technologies, such as, intelligent networks, distributed generation, energy storage and standards for energy efficiency and what may appear in coming years, all allied with increasingly high taxes, challenge the results of all economic sectors. Energy is a strategic input to the health sector and asset management, allied with energy-efficiency management, makes it possible to optimize the use of the energetic inputs, to identify where the efficiency needs improvement, to reduce operational costs and to enhance the opportunities in an environment increasingly competitive. For these reasons, the application of high-efficiency facilities is a strong trend in the hospital area and, added to asset management it will lead to a better financial return, by reducing maintenance costs and shutdowns during the equipment lifetime, contributing to amortize the initial investment. Asset Management results in companies from other sectors - According to the companies that have implemented or that are implementing asset management, the main advantages are: Strategic vision of the business; Change of culture; Improvement of the technical and financial performance; Improvement in competitiveness. In only two years after the asset management implementation, ScottishPower, a company of the Iberdrola Group, exhibited results as improved reliability and decrease of the number of non-planned outages, with significant costs’ reduction. Their main results were: 20% reduction in operations and maintenance costs; Increase of 22% in plant availability; Decrease of 25% in penalties due to forced plant outage; Decrease of 10% at the security premium. The norms ABNT NBR 5500X provides the guidelines for the asset management - In Brazil, the ICA – International Copper Association, along with ABRAMAN, coordinated the elaboration of the Brazilian standards for asset management through the ABNT/CEE-251 Commission (Commission of Study of Special Asset Management) at the TC 251 from ISO. More than 40 representatives from various Brazilian companies were involved, from 11 energy companies, besides ANEEL. Nowadays, the commission has a work group to discuss exclusively the norms’ application at hospitals. This group is coordenated by the representative from the Hospital Beneficiência Portuguesa de São Paulo that is the first Brazilian hospital to achieve the ISO 55001 certification. These standards constitute a reference to all Brazilian asset-intensive companies or that depend on their assets to establish their business. ARTIGO ARTICLE
