Citroën opened the assembly line in 2001, with the Picasso, and the Group’s other brand began producing the 207 at the plant seven years later. With 5,000 employees, the Production Center currently has a capacity to manufacture about 150,000 vehicles a year for the two brands (the 208 207, 207 Passion, and the pickup, Hoggar, for Peugeot, and the New C3, Aircross and C3 Picasso, for Citroën). In the same place is an Engine Machining Unit, which provides blocks and heads for the engines produced locally, and the engine production line, with an installed capacity of 280,000 engines a year in 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 liter formats. This year the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group celebrates 12 years in Brazil as a local manufacturer, but well before this it was operating in the country, importing vehicles from France. The real connection with Brazil began in 1991 with the appointment of an official importer of Citroen models, and in 1992 a subsidiary of Peugeot was created.
