SEST/SENAT 58 Anuário Yearbook ABLA 2013 on professional education. With this, Sest Senat qualifies as fundamental agent in training and a transformer of socioeconomic reality for transport workers. Its huge reach means it is essential to the social balance of the communities it is based in. The units of Sest Senat have physiotherapy, clinical psychology, ophthalmology and dental care clinics, as well as classrooms and computer laboratories for training courses, and complete leisure areas with a gym, swimming pools, sports courts, soccer fields and playgrounds. Aiming to permanently improve the quality of life for workers in transport and the community where it operates, Sest Senat promotes, in addition to routine healthcare and leisure, sports and culture, interaction with the community, running extra schedules serving the population on holidays. Sest Senat also works on major social issues. On the issue of the sexual exploitation of children, it supports the National Campaign against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents. The goal is to help raise awareness of transport workers and society at large about the importance of protecting our children. In partnership with the Federal Highway Police Department (DPRF), since 2006 Sest Senat has organized the program Healthcare on the Highways. The project mobilizes various educational units in educational efforts on the highways, where drivers are advised by professionals from the institution on good health habits. With the goal of meeting the demand at transport companies, the Drivers Training Program for the Labor Market at Sest Senat qualifies drivers to work in the cargo and passenger transport sectors. Aiming to stimulate the discussion of issues related to citizenship, health and quality of life among transport workers and the whole community, Sest Senat runs a Cycle of Talks. The program’s themes enable the development of critical thinking and the creating of new habits that promote a better quality of life, contributing to the development of citizenship, not only in the transportation sector, but throughout society. Sest Senat offers nearly 300 courses for workers in transport, taxi drivers, independent truck drivers, drivers, assistants, mechanics and other professionals from other sectors at transport companies. While trying to meet the demands of carriers for skilled labor, Sest Senat courses are also designed for the community where its units are and, in such cases, the courses serve local interests and features.
