14 Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos Brazilian Vehicle Rental Sector Yearbook 2018 The Fable of the Hummingbird A WORD FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT W hat can we give back, within what you expect from ABLA, FENALOC and SINDILOCS? Are we organized and struc- tured to deliver what you want and need? Well, there is a fable that I believe helps us think of good answers to such important questions as these. Perhaps some of you already know it: it is the fable of the hummingbird, which along with other animals, was surrounded by a forest fire. Instead of fleeing, the hum- mingbird acted very differently: it picked up drops from the lake and threw them one by one against the flames. An eagle, intrigued by this, asked: “You little bird, do you think you’re go- ing to put out that fire by yourself?” “Alone, I know I won’t but I’m doing my part...” It was then that other birds also joined in. And this got the elephants involved, who filled their trunks and rushed to help. The monkeys then began to pick up nut shells to carry more water. In the end, each one did what they could to fight the fire and in the end it was put out. This fable is pertinent because although it seems obvious, it shows that learning to act in an integrated way involves different challenges. This happens, for example, when negotiating differences, overcoming fears and also involves the ability to see the best way to benefit the collective. This is what we have done in our sec- tor based on previous great management, which now gets another boost to improve teamwork. We started 2018 with ABLA, FENALOC and SINDLOCS engaged in building a more integrated relationship through the implementation of a National Vehicle Rental System. This project will strengthen each of the entities in our sector, based on the appre- ciation of the synergies that exist between them, mainly due to the great capillarity that a presence in practically every state of Brazil provides us with. With common language and objectives this will, for example, make it possible for rental companies admitted to the ABLA or to SINDLOCS to automatically become part of the associative staff of all the enti- ties in the sector, taking advantage of the benefits they are entitled to. There is a way to go and it certainly in- volves assessments of the current scenario and the likelihood of growth in the sector, action plans for capacity building, direct prospecting of associates to increase nu- merical, qualitative and commercial repre- sentation of rental companies. Where we want to get and how will be the premise for the success of this bold plan. We will take into account technological innovations, products and services that are emerging in the competitive rental market, as well as the mergers and acquisitions that are also part of our sector. These and other factors increase the responsibility of entities in the sector which are, after all, the main support tools for rental companies. We know that alone it would be impos- sible to achieve all the objectives. How- ever, we are sure that by being integrated there is nothing to hold our sector back from creating more jobs and collaborating in the mobility solutions that Brazil needs so badly. You can count on us. Enjoy this year- book. Marco Aurélio Gonçalves Nazaré Vice-President of ABLA’s National Board We are sure that by being integrated there is nothing to hold our sector back
