Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos | 2019

105 2019 Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos Brazilian Vehicle Rental Sector Yearbook On two wheels I n 2019 about 857,000 bicycles will be made in Brazil, 10.8% more than last year. This estimate is from the Brazilian Association of Motorcycles, Moped, Scooter and Bicycle Manufacturers (Abraciclo), thanks to the greater offer of products, more competitive prices and expansion of urban mobility. In 2018, in bicycles for urban use only, 306,740 units were produced - almost 40% of total output. Last year, Yellow launched the first free dockless bike sharing service in São Paulo, with a plan to put up to 100,000 units in the market. The most important innovation was in the rental model: bikes are rented through a mobile app that, among other features, does not require a dock. Yellow is based on the Chinese model, where bicycle-sharing startups have emerged, which has led to a 50% increase in the use of this mode of transportation in China. Yellow announced in early 2019 its merger with Grin - Latin America’s largest electric scooter company - in an operation that gave rise to Grow Mobility. This new company has a fleet of 135,000 scooters and bikes in seven countries. Business will expand into markets such as Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. Regarding motorcycles, Abraciclo believes that the market continues to be favored by the recovery of consumer confidence, as well as by the economic recovery and increase in the supply of credit. Wholesale sales - from manufacturers to dealers - shadowed growth in production, ending 2018 with a 17.6% increase on 2017.Proof of this was the significant number of product launches and the forecast of a 4.2% increase in production in 2019.
