Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos | 2022

129 2022 Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos Brazilian Vehicle Rental Sector Yearbook The challenges faced by the auto parts sector have shown its resilience and ability to adapt to the most diverse scenarios, overcoming the horizontal barriers to competitiveness that persist in Brazil. 2021 saw growth in demand, but supply-side problems, especially for semiconductors, reduced vehicle production and sales, impacting the auto parts industry. In the end, 2021 was better than 2020. Nominally, because of rising inflation and the devaluation of the real, billing was significant. But in real terms, we still fell short of the numbers produced in 2019. Our view in January is that this will be a difficult year, with high interest rates and doubts about the fiscal balance making it even more difficult to tackle inflation and lengthening the period of high interest rates, creating a negative cycle. On the other hand, there is still a significant delay in production, which is expected to help the activity in 2022. This makes some growth likely in the year, but not as much as ideal. The factors that could boost the auto parts sector, offering the conditions for constant and sustainable growth, are mostly horizontal. We support an agenda that allows macroeconomic normality and eliminates barriers to competitiveness, which affect all sectors of the economy in Brazil. Also needed are public policies to boost innovation and our integration into the world, preferably through trade agreements. From the sector’s point of view, Sindipeças is doing important work to expand internationally through the Brazil Auto Parts Project in a partnership with the Brazilian Agency for The Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex-Brasil). This trains people in the automotive production chain, with the Sindipeças Institute of Corporate Education. Research, development and innovation (PR&I) at the companies it represents are supported by the Sindipeças Inova program, among other innovation efforts. Sindipeças represents about five hundred Brazilian and international auto parts makers in several Brazilian states. Our members supply to all the automakers in Brazil and export to more than two hundred markets, manufacturing products for the maintenance of the Brazilian vehicle fleet of about 46 million units (2020).
