Anuário Estatístico SINDICEL | 2025

75 2025 Anuário Estatístico Statistical Yearbook | SINDICEL On its mission to develop the electrical wires and cables sector, Sindicel has been working with the Brazilian Association for the Quality of Electrical Wires and Cables (Qualifio), which monitors and identifies non-documented products in the Brazilian market. Considering their synergy in dialogue with Government agencies in the formulation and implementation of policies essential to the development of the sector, we highlight the implementation of the National Program to Combat the Illegal Market (PNCMI), which aims to ensure that every company complies with the compulsory standards set by regulatory agencies, ensuring competitive equality, quality products in the market and, above all, consumer safety. Sindicel and Qualifio carried out several search and seizure measures involving non-compliant wires and cables in several states of Brazil, along with public authorities, per the data presented below. Analysis of market samples indicates that 70% of the brands tested had electrical resistance higher than the technical specification set by Inmetro (the National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology), indicating a major risk of fire. From 2020 to 2023, 91 brands were inspected, some of them in more than one Brazilian state, and nine arrests were made for crimes against consumers. Sindicel estimates that 30% of the market for electrical wires and cables sold in the country was illegal, not meeting the standards and technical specifications that guarantee safety. In addition, other awareness-raising actions by Sindicel, such as the publication of alerts to the market, with quality tests of irregular brands, aim to alert consumers and traders about illegal electrical wires and cables.
