47 Anuário Yearbook ABLA 2014 Currently, the Brazilian Travel Agency Association (National ABAV) is the most representative body in the Brazilian tourismsector. Thiscomesdown to itscredibilityand strength, along with all the links that make up the dynamic productive and economic sector that has been developed by hardwork done over almost 60 years. The institution is responsible for guiding and leading actions that contribute to the development of domestic tourism, facing and overcoming many challenges in order to consolidate the image of the tourism business, which is growing by leaps and bounds - even more than the average for development overall inBrazil. Among the ABAV’s missions are representing the interests of travel agencies, fostering the development of domestic tourism in all its manifestations, and promoting the issues of interest to the organization, informing all the members of relevant new in the sector. At the saker time, it runs congresses, conferences and exhibitions that contribute to the technical development of the sector, and - through the ICCABAV - valuing training. With the creation of theMinistry of Tourism, in January 2003,ABAV joined theNational TourismCouncil, renewing its role as a catalyst for different segments and market niches. Theorganizationalso investsheavily inchanging thementality of theprofessionals its represents, actingasspokesperson for members’ interests. National ABAV was created on December 28, 1953, in Rio de Janeiro - then the nation’s capital. It was set up by 15 travel agencies in order to promote their businesses throughout the country, and todefend the legitimate interests of the tourism industry as a whole, working with public authorities on problems in the sector. Increasingly, ABAV plays a transformative role as an agent that focuseson localactionwithaglobal vision.
